Sutro  Journey
2021
Reimaging the Sutro Baths in San Francisco, California

Opened in 1894, the Sutro Baths were a grand saltwater pool complex that could host 10,000 visitors and included a museum and amphitheater. The site was destroyed by fire in 1966, leaving its ruins behind.

Visiting the site, I was struck by its vastness, natural beauty, and the contrast between the openness of the main area and the seclusion of the northern cypress tree grove. Inspired by the trees’ intimacy and the historic ruins, I envisioned a transparent public pool harmonizing with the landscape. To honor the site’s history, I proposed situating the interpretation center directly atop the original ruins, allowing visitors to connect with the past. Addressing the steep, inaccessible terrain was also crucial to the project’s success

Luce di Sopresa
2022
Reimaging the Palazzo delle Poste in Rome, Italy

Designed by Adalberto Libera in 1935, the Rationalist Palazzo delle Poste reflects the Fascist Period under Mussolini. Located near key Roman landmarks and a desolate park, the building features imposing orthogonal lines, heavy stone, and a striking oval glass extrusion.

Tasked with retrofitting luxury apartments within the post office, I was intrigued by the site's duality. The exterior exudes power and severity, but stepping into the lobby revealed a stark contrast: flowing curves, skylights, and luminous marble. This unexpected lightness and elegance inspired my approach to transform the space while respecting its historic character.

Below the Surface
2022
An archive for Luis Barragan in Mexico City, Mexico

Located in the Tacubaya district of Mexico City, Parque Lira sits on the grounds of the former home of the Viceroy of New Spain (1755-1760) and the current museum of decorative arts. Its political and artistic significance has made it one of the city's most densely populated parks.

Tasked with designing an archive for Mexican architect Luis Barragán, I sought spaces reflecting his principles of serenity, spirituality, nature, and light. The park’s inherent beauty required minimal disruption, leading me to two circular features—a fountain and flower bed—that offered geometric simplicity. Additionally, a stone path canopied by trees provided an intimate entrance. The archive was placed underground to protect materials from light damage while controlling light and procession, creating a contemplative journey to Barragán’s work.
